Tonight was DJ’s first foray into one of Mel’s family favorites, spaghetti! So, while we hail from the land of orange bath tubs you can enjoy some before and after pictures.

If you grow up in Alabama barbecue ribs are something you quite literally cut your teeth on. Witness, Bree (with a mouth full of teeth) and DJ (only four teeth so far) destroying some ribs.
We Garvichs take our rib eating seriously, and if you want to get into rib eating shape you’ve gotta start training early!
There’s always a lot of fun around Mel’s birthday. Â I think people are in the holiday spirit and ready to celebrate, then her birthday comes along and everyone has an excuse to get together and eat. Â Not that we should have to have an excuse, but give us one and we’re sure to take full advantage!
Happy birthday Mel!
I’m a little behind on our blog updates, mostly because I haven’t spent as much time in my office or at my home computer(s) as I used to. Â Of course, everyone knows the reason for that and I’m sure they’re just fine with it. Â 😉
So I’m trying to get back up to speed as quickly as possible and I’m starting with our Thanksgiving update.
Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, and the 2008 edition absolutely did not disappoint! Â The festivities actually started quite a bit early as Chris decided it was time for a new tradition, the Thanksgiving Throwdown / Iron Chef (a tribute to Bobby Flay’s Food Network shows). Â This year, the target of the Throwdown / Iron Chef competition was… cranberries! Â So Chris and Mel set out to one up each other with cranberry recipes. Â Trash talking started early and never relented; the stage was set. Â In the end there could be only one victor and Chris won the day with his very impressive Cranberry Salsa.
After the judges rendered their decision and we ate all of the evidence, it was time to head to our second Thanksgiving stop of the day. Â As usual, our second stop turned out to be quite a bit more subdued than our first as we spent the rest of the day relaxing, talking and hanging out with family… while they all hung out with Bree. Â 😉
As always, all of the pictures in the gallery below are on our private Flickr feed. Â If you would like access to the pictures, with the ability to get them in digital or print format, check out my previous post with instructions on how to get access.

After arriving home from Florida on Friday, I remembered that we had no food in our house at all. Although the food at the beach was great and it was nice to hang up my apron for a week, I am ready to get back in the kitchen! There is nothing like cooking your own food just the way you like it. So I made a menu, prepared my grocery list and went to the grocery store today. I will probably spend about an hour tomorrow making all of the marinades for the week and get everything ready to just pull out and cook since I have such a busy week ahead of me.
Dessert for the week-Fresh fruit and Espresso chocolate cake Yummy!
